WHAT IS SACRED FOOLS ?
Founded in 1997 SACRED FOOLS THEATRE COMPANY is an award winning organization that has become a mainstay of the small theatre community of Los Angeles. The Fools produce a variety of shows from traditional, established work, to world premiere plays and musicals.

With over 100 awards for excellence in theatre to its credit, the success of some Fools' shows have led to their being moved to larger commercial venues - like Louie & Keely Live at the Sahara to the The Geffin Playhouse, and Stoneface to the the Pasadena Playhouse.
​
In 2016, Sacred Fools made its new home at the Broadwater Complex on Theatre Row in Hollywood. The Fools now operate four performance spaces in the Broadwater, and its location has made it an attractive venue for the Hollywood Fringe Festival where, for the 2018 festival alone, it housed more than 60 productions.

PAT TOWNE has been involved with the Fools since the first year of its existence having served as a company member, director, and performer in countless productions there. A few are listed below.

WHAT IS NICHOLS DeBEAUBIEN'S HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME ?
PAT TOWNE AS NICHOAS WITH MICHELLE PHILLIPE AS LAURA
Nicholas DeBeaubian is the maniacal head of a theater troupe and he wants a new take on the classic story of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. To satisfy his vision, he forces his cast to endure his changing styles and settings for the play from the cabaret style of the Wiemar Republic to the Sci-Fi style of sixty's television.

NICHOLAS DeBEAUBIAN'S HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME is several hilarious plays within a hysterical play as we watch the planning and execution of each of Nicholas' versions of the play as he attempts to refine Victor Hugo's masterpiece and create the definitive staging of the story.
​
PAT TOWNE played the title role of Nicholas DeBeaubian, and the show won the Dramalogue Award for Best Ensemble. It was directed by Adam Bitterman and produced by Jonathan Goldstein for Sacred Fools in Hollywood.

WHAT IS CRIME SCENE ?
CRIME SCENE was Sacred Fools' first foray into late night comedy, and it soon became the best bash in Hollywood. The show consisted of three plays each broken into three intercut scenes, and all the stories had something to do with a crime. The stories could run for only one week, or - if the playwright wanted - it could continue on for as long as it took to tell the whole story and nothing but the story. So help me God... they could run forever.

PAT TOWNE directed a piece for the first Crime Scene, and then went on to play more characters over its five year history than any other performer. This honor earned him the self-dubbed title of MR. CRIME SCENE.

WHAT IS BURNING CHROME ?
BURNING CHROME is the theatrical adaptation, by Steve Pickering and Charlie Sherman, of William Gibson's sci-fi short story of the same name.
​
Gibson coined the word 'Cyberspace' in this story, and pioneered the science fiction sub-genre known as Cyberpunk. In BURNING CHROME Gibson sets the story in a post-apocalyptic place called The Sprawl, a world where everyone can be physically altered and directly connected to Cyberspace enabling them to live through others' eyes and experience other lives.

PAT TOWNE played The Finn, Gibson's guide through the world of The Sprawl and procurer of unusual electronics, in this West Coast Premiere production of BURNING CHROME, directed by Scott Rabinowitz for Sacred Fools.

THE FUTURE
As with just about every other theatre everywhere, the tragedy of Covid-19 has hit Sacred Fools and the Broadwater Theater Complex very hard. The people of Sacred Fools have worked hard to keep the company active by producing Zoom productions of new shows, Zoom productions of old favorites, and even having its summer theatre camp for kids meet on line to keep the fun of the Fools alive during the crisis.

SACRED FOOLS remains a major force in the landscape of theatre in Hollywood. It is a non-profit theatre company whose members are devoted to theatre and to enlivening the local community with the proven power of its work.
​
