A TRANSPARENT MUSICAL is a groundbreaking new musical by Joey Soloway and MJ Kaufman with music and lyrics by Faith Soloway. Yes, the same Soloway sibling that you may have read about here. It made its world premiere at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles under the direction of Tina Landau with Julie McBride as music director.

Based on the Emmy Award winning television series Transparent created by Joey Soloway, A TRANSPARENT MUSICAL is a story of the Pfefferman family struggling with the new realities of gender identity and generational trauma within their family.

A TRANSPARENT MUSICAL had its world premiere at The Mark Taper Forum in the spring of 2023. PAT TOWNE played the role of Magnus Hirschfeld, a character based on the real head of the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft ('Institute of Sexual Research') in Germany early in the 20th Century. Hirschfeld was a revolutionary pioneer in studying sexuality and gender identity, and he founded the Scientific-Humanitarian Committee -- one of the first modern organizations to advocate for homosexual and transgender rights.​​
